How to hire an employee or worker

An effective and professional recruitment and selection process is vital to recruiting and retaining the quality staff that the University needs to remain successful in the future. Here you will find all the information you need to successfully undertake this process in partnership with HR Operations.

Please note

If you are recruiting for a permanent or fixed term contract, please speak to your HR Co-Ordinator or recruitment@reading.ac.uk regarding dates as we are currently upgrading our HR and recruitment system.

Whether you are recruiting for a permanent or temporary role, you must go through an appropriate approval process. Select one of the options below to find out more.

For engaging with students and non-students in part-time/causal work.

For recruiting a permanent member of staff (full or part-time), an Associate Lecturer, a fixed term contract for longer than 3 months and extending or amending an existing contract.

For engaging with a recruitment agency.

For engaging with a contractor who is self-employed or part of a limited company.
